The Department of Otolaryngology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University is one of the earliest specialties established in Southwest China. It was founded in 1956 by the Eye, Ear, nose and Throat Hospital of Shanghai Medical College (now Fudan University Medical School). After more than 60 years of development, it has become a specialty with high-end talents, strong technical strength, first-class equipment and facilities, integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research.

The otolaryngology department has well-equipped rescue room, hearing test room, hearing aid fitting center, electronic laryngoscope room, nasal endoscope room, ear microscope room, Chongqing Sleep-breathing Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, allergy laboratory, etc. It has advanced medical equipment including GE Otorhinolaryngology surgery navigation system, Beethoven intelligent CO2 laser surgery system, low temperature plasma knife, ultrasonic rhinitis treatment instrument (CZB type nasal surgery HIFU knife), polysleep respiratory examination instrument, etc., which can fully meet the needs of various examinations and surgeries in the department.
The sub-discipline has distinctive characteristics and first-class technology. In the past 10 years, we have continuously tracked the development direction of disciplines at home and abroad, actively carried out new technologies, and gradually formed distinctive and influential sub-disciplines such as ear, nose, throat, and head and neck surgery.
The Department of Otolaryngology was nominated in the "China Best Hospitals Best Specialty Reputation Ranking (Fudan Edition)" from 2018 to 2020, and ranked second in the Southwest region for four consecutive years from 2019 to 2022. The 2020-2022 China Hospital Science and Technology Impact Evaluation Report ranked 18th, 22nd and 17th respectively. Ranked first in Chongqing region.
