The Department of General Practice of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University was founded on September 18, 2012, initially affiliated with the Department of Geriatrics. On November 23, 2020, it became an independent entity.Adhering to the discipline orientation of "general medical treatment as the basis, general teaching as the focus, general scientific research as the guidance", it aims to align with international standards and become a leading and exemplary clinical department

Transitioning from being affiliated with the Department of Geriatrics to operating independently, the Department of General Medicine has maintained steady development.. Breaking away from the traditional model of diagnosing and treating diseases based on specific categories, it integrates core specialties, high-quality medical resources, and comprehensive service concepts. This integration has formed a comprehensive platform that encompasses preventive care, health management, diagnosis and treatment of undifferentiated diseases, as well as treatment and management of chronic diseases.

The primary characteristic of the Department of General Medicine lies not only in its coverage of various common diseases but also in its comprehensive health management and preventive efforts. Through health risk identification and intervention, it assists patients in timely identifying potential health risk factors and taking effective measures to intervene, thereby preventing the occurrence and progression of diseases. For patients with vague symptoms or conditions not clearly attributed to a specific system, it also provides diagnosis and treatment services for undifferentiated diseases. Through comprehensive analysis and integrated treatment plans, it ensures that patients receive effective treatment as early as possible. For patients with multiple coexisting diseases, it offers diagnosis and treatment services for multiple diseases. By integrating treatment plans from various specialties, it provides patients with comprehensive, integrated diagnosis and treatment, avoiding their repeated visits to different specialties. Additionally, for chronic disease patients, it provides comprehensive disease management, including but not limited to hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and osteoporosis. Through continuous, comprehensive, and coordinated management and treatment, it helps patients control their conditions and improve their quality of life. Committed to extending medical services to the entire process of health management and disease prevention, it maximally meets patients' health needs. It not only focuses on disease treatment but also emphasizes health maintenance and promotion, providing patients with more comprehensive and personalized medical services.

To achieve linkage between tertiary hospitals and communities for health management, facilitate smooth referral both upwards and downwards, and provide continuous care for patients; offer pre- and post-treatment care for patients requiring specialized treatment; and enhance diagnostic and treatment services for chronic disease patients through the introduction of advanced technological equipment such as dynamic blood pressure monitoring, electrocardiogram monitoring, remote electrocardiogram monitoring, dynamic blood glucose monitoring, pulmonary function monitoring, etc.

The General Medicine department boasts a medical and nursing team with rich clinical experience and robust technical expertise. Presently, the team consists of 11 doctors and 18 nurses, including 4 individuals holding senior professional titles, 2 master's supervisors, 5 doctors, and 9 master's degree holders.

The Department of General Medicine currently operates 2 outpatient consultation rooms with a total of 45 allocated beds. It offers services including comprehensive chronic disease management, outpatient care for retired personnel, general chronic disease follow-up and case management, as well as teaching clinics. The department is equipped with non-invasive ventilators, high-flow respiratory humidifiers, defibrillators, multifunctional monitors, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, insulin infusion pumps, and other medical equipment. With comprehensive facilities, it provides patients with a comfortable healthcare environment.

The Department of General Medicine Teaching and Research Office prioritizes education and continuously enhances its teaching capabilities. Several medical and nursing staff members have been honored with national, municipal, and university-level awards for outstanding teaching and training. The discipline has been designated as the chair unit of the Chongqing Municipal Society for Health Promotion and Health Education's General Medicine Professional Committee and the Chongqing Municipal Popular Science Base for Chronic Disease and Rehabilitation Promotion. As a national standardized training base for general practitioners, it undertakes multiple teaching tasks, including standardized training for resident general practitioners, continuing education for general physicians, transition training for general practice, and training for interns and graduate students in general practice, dedicated to cultivating talents in general medicine. The department has received numerous awards and accolades for its outstanding bases and teaching achievements, contributing to the construction of the national grassroots health service system. It engages in specialized development planning exchanges with several domestic hospitals, strengthening discipline construction and cooperation. Through organizing academic conferences, training sessions, and other activities, it promotes the development and exchange of general medicine. Additionally, it collaborates with several tertiary comprehensive hospitals and grassroots medical units such as Beijing Tiantan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital of Zhejiang University, and Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University on specialized development planning exchanges. It cooperates with Chongqing Medical University Affiliated Children's Hospital and excellent grassroots practice bases to conduct teaching and practical activities, providing support for grassroots medical care and establishing a green channel for bidirectional patient referrals, committed to enhancing the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of health guardians.
