Health Management Center

Health Management Center at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, established in September 2003, stands as Chongqing’s inaugural, highly specialized, one-stop facility for health examination and management. It presently operates state-of-the-art examination venues at both Yuanjiagang and Jinshan campuses, encompassing a total area of 7,715 square meters. Capitalizing on the hospital’s formidable comprehensive capabilities, the center offers advanced health consultation clinics, health management clinics, and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) clinics. Its initiatives in academic discipline development, quality control in health examinations, chronic disease management, and health promotion consistently rank among the nation’s best.

I. Service Capabilities

(I) Department and Platform Setup

1. Facilities: The department is equipped with dedicated health management (examination) and waiting areas that fully comply with national accessibility standards. All physical examination units and ancillary diagnostic facilities are separately housed, featuring meticulously standardized and easily discernible directional signage, with medical waste segregated and managed in strict accordance with regulatory mandates.

2. Staffing: The center currently employs 171 full-time professionals, featuring a cadre of experts and professors renowned for their extensive clinical experience and outstanding academic achievements in disciplines such as internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology and otolaryngology. This distinguished team includes 7 senior chief physicians, 18 associate chief physicians, 7 master supervisors, 7 holders of medical doctorates, 31 medical master’s degree recipients, 4 members of national academic societies, 7 directors or deputy directors from provincial/municipal academic associations, 3 editorial board members and peer reviewers for national journals (in addition to 1 for provincial/municipal journals), and 12 specialists associated with the Chongqing Health Examination Quality Control Center.

3. Collaborative Departments: The Health Management Center shares advanced facilities – including the medical laboratory, molecular medical testing center and radiological diagnosis platform - with the hospital’s clinical departments.

4. Auxiliary Functions and Management Areas

The department has instituted specialized units, including the Core Team, Quality Control Group, Expert Panel, External Liaison Group, and Hospital Infection Control Group.

(II) Health Examination Services

The center offers an extensive array of examination services covering specialties such as Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Radiology, Ultrasonography, Laboratory Medicine, and Electrocardiography. Guided by the Interim Regulations on Health Examination Management and the Expert Consensus on Basic Health Examination Items, the center has assembled a multidisciplinary clinical expert team in tandem with a dedicated health management team to deliver superior diagnostic and management services.

(III) Comprehensive Service Capacity

Over the past three years, the center has achieved a 100% real-name registration rate for health examinations. Clinically significant positive findings from critical examination items were communicated to 67,256 individuals, with a flawless follow-up rate of 100%. In 2023, the center was entrusted with leading the “Formulation and Revision Project of Chongqing Local Standards for Health Examination Services”, thereby reinforcing its preeminent role in shaping regional health examination protocols.

(IV) Core Technologies

The department has established four subspecialties: Chronic Disease Management, Geriatric Common Disease Management, Functional Medicine, and Health Examination Big Data & Artificial Intelligence. Centered on these subspecialties, the center proactively implements initiatives such as Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Clinics (e.g., Digital-Intelligent Pulmonary Nodule and Lung Cancer screening), Health Management Clinics, Disease-Specific Management Clinics, comprehensive post-examination health management, and an integrated nurse-physician collaborative health management model. These advanced initiatives robustly support individualized risk assessment and tailored health management strategies.

II. Teaching Capabilities

In May 2020, the center was accredited by the Ministry of Education as a Master’s Degree granting site for Health Management. To date, it has enrolled four cohorts of clinical medicine master’s students across five research domains, including Chronic Disease Risk Assessment and Management. Over the past three years, the center has published 22 high-caliber scholarly teaching papers and authored two authoritative monographs.

In March 2022, the Chongqing Nursing Association sanctioned the establishment of a Health Management Specialist Nurse Training Base at the First Affiliated Hospital.       

III. Research Capabilities

In recent years, the center has secured 8 national-level projects - including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation - and 15 provincial/ministerial-level projects such as the “Chongqing Technology Innovation and Application Development Special Major Project.” Over the past three years, it has published more than 20 SCI-indexed papers, in addition to 12 papers in journals indexed by CSCD or included in the Chinese Science Citation Database. Collaborative research involving Director LUO Rong’s team, Professor LI Qifu’s team from the Department of Endocrinology, and Professor DING Shijia’s team from the Ministry of Education’s Key Laboratory of Clinical Laboratory Diagnosis at the School of Laboratory Medicine at Chongqing Medical University has culminated in several high-impact publications in internationally acclaimed medical journals.

IV. Implementation of Tasks and Social Contributions

(I) In 2018, the center spearheaded the formation of the “Southwest Health Management Specialist Alliance” and, in September 2023, joined the “Health Management Medicine Specialist Alliance and Chronic Disease Management Consortium”.

(II) The center actively convenes academic conferences and national training seminars on latest advances in health management. In 2020, it hosted the grand “Western Health Symposium,” and in March 2024, it organized the Fifth National Standardized Training Project for Chief Health Examination Physicians under the auspices of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association.

(III) Affiliated with the Chongqing Health Examination Quality Control Center, the center has been repeatedly recognized by the Chongqing Health Commission as an “Outstanding Municipal Medical Quality Control Center”, ranking first in 2021 with a score of 94.59. In 2022, it secured fifth place nationwide in the National Health Commission’s “Provincial Quality Control Center Performance Evaluation,” and in 2024, one of its quality control cases was honored as a model case by the National Health Examination and Management Quality Control Program.

(IV) The center’s staff actively participate in support missions, annually dispatching medical personnel to provide technical assistance to lower-tier hospitals.

(V) Digital Health Education: Under hospital management, the center independently operates the “Health Management Center at First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University” WeChat public platform. It has successively launched original science popularization programs such as “Health 360,” “Daily Health Talk,” “Healthy China: Pioneering Science Popularization,” and the “Science 360” video channel, collectively engaging nearly 300,000 followers.  

The health education team has garnered numerous prestigious accolades, including: selection among the top 32 national entries in the “2023 Health China Innovation Practice Case Collection and Exhibition” for its integrated nurse-physician health education initiative covering the full spectrum of the health examination process; second place in the national speech category of the “2021 New Era Health Science Popularization Works Collection Competition”; first prize in the “Health Examination and Management Quality Improvement Excellence Case Collection,” coupled with a second prize in the 2024 Chongqing Health Commission’s Science Popularization Video Contest; recognition for high-quality contributions in the “2023 Health China Action Public Speaking Contest”; third place in the 2022 Chongqing Science Popularization Contest, and notable rankings - fifth and eighth - for health management popularization paper submissions in 2023 and 2024 respectively, with dozens of original articles commended as “High-Quality Health Science Popularization Papers”.
